An applicant is requesting that the town of Hayden annex about 36 acres west of town for a proposed commercial/industrial project.
The Hayden Town Board on Thursday will consider a resolution to begin the annexation approval process for the land west of Wagner Equipment on West Jefferson Avenue.
The applicant, X-West, will present a sketch plan for a proposed commercial subdivision on the property to the Hayden Planning Commission next week, Town Manager Russ Martin said.
If the Town Board approves the annexation resolution Thurs--day, a public hearing will be held Jan. 19.
Another applicant, Huntco, is requesting that the town simultaneously annex 35 acres adjoining the X-West property.
In other business, the board is expected to approve an ordinance increasing monthly water-usage fees by about 25 percent starting Jan. 1.
The proposed increase is part of a five-year plan to bring usage fees in line with the costs of bringing water to residences and businesses by 2007.
Monthly usage fees are calculated per 1,000 gallons and are paid in addition to a base rate of $15.95. The base rate would not change.
The usage rate increase would apply to all seven categories of customers, which are further broken down into blocks depending on usage.
Some people have complained to Town Board members about rate increases in the past several years. However, the town has had to make up for years of stagnant water rates, Martin said.
As more growth occurs, residents and businesses should see relief from steep rate increases because there will be more customers sharing the burden of water costs, he said.
Information about water rates is available on the town's Web site, www.townofhayden.org.
The Town Board meets at 7:30 p.m. at Hayden Town Hall.
