The list of trails available to opening-day skiers and riders jumped to 26 today with the added news that the Steamboat Ski Area would offer skiing from the top of Storm Peak by Friday.
Snow riders taking advantage of today's $15 lift tickets for Scholarship Day will find crisply groomed snow under blue skies on classic intermediate trails such as Lower Rainbow, Rudi's Run, Lightning, Vagabond and Norther. In addition, there will be steeper pitches on BC Lift Line and White Out. By Friday, skiers will be able to ride the Storm Peak Express to gain access to Buddy's Run, Calf Roper and Upper Rainbow.
"The snow from this past week's storm is higher in density and has compressed nicely to establish a good stable base, especially for this early in the season," Steamboat Vice President of Mountain Operations Doug Allen said. "As Mother Nature continues to deliver snow and cold temperatures over the next two weeks, the resort plans to take full advantage and open additional terrain and lifts as conditions permit."
Steamboat officials tentatively announced Monday that they would open with at least six lifts and seven trails and promised to re-evaluate after another night and day of snowmaking and grooming. By late afternoon Tuesday, they had revised the opening day roster to add 20 more trails.
Steamboat received 32 inches of snow at mid-mountain in the week preceding Nov. 17. Overnight temperatures during the succeeding five days dipped into single digits, allowing the snowmaking the resort needed for a solid Thanksgiving weekend.
"Steamboat is enjoying excellent snow conditions and, thanks to the round-the-clock work of resort crews, Thanksgiving holiday skiers and riders will enjoy top-to-bottom skiing starting this Friday," said Chris Diamond, president of Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp.
Skiers and riders are advised to check Friday morning for the complete list of available trails.
Adult lift tickets on Thanksgiving Day will cost $39. Friday through Sunday, the price moves to $59.
