Suzanne Schlicht, publisher of Steamboat Pilot & Today, Steam--boat Today and Hayden Valley Press newspapers and regional manager for WorldWest LLC since 1995, has been named general manager and director of strategic planning for the company.

The change is part of a realignment of responsibilities announced Monday. Bryna Larsen succeeds Schlicht as publisher. Larsen will direct day-to-day operations of the newspapers and will be responsible for management of all departments.

Samantha Johnston, who has been publisher of the Craig Daily Press, succeeds Larsen as regional director of advertising. Johnston will manage the classified and display advertising departments at the Steamboat Springs and Craig newspapers.

The growth of the company and the growth in the Colorado communities in particular influenced the decisions, said Dolph C. Simons III, WorldWest co-manager. During Schlicht's recent maternity leave, Larsen served successfully as acting publisher for several months ending in October, he said. Analysis of the overall responsibilities and the company's needs upon Schlicht's return helped prompt a corporate decision to divide the duties, with the enthusiastic support of all three of the newspaper executives, he added.

"The company's very fortunate to have such talented and dedicated employees who're prepared to step into these new roles," said Dan Simons, WorldWest's other co-manager.

Schlicht will continue to oversee WorldWest operations in Craig and Steamboat and Payson, Ariz., and also will lead strategic growth initiatives for the company. She will continue to be based in Steamboat.

"I'm pleased to provide career growth opportunities to Bryna and Samantha, who have both been key contributors to our newspapers for many years," Schlicht said.

The transition to the new responsibilities will begin immediately, but the three will continue in their current roles until the new Craig publisher is in place.
