Routt County Road 78 to close for construction

Drivers on Routt County Road 78 in western Routt County will be detoured for the winter, so work on the Elk Head Dam can take place. The road goes over the dam, which is being raised. There are signs marking the detour, which will be plowed and will stay in place until the dam construction is complete. County officials expect to reopen the road in spring or summer.

High School presents 'Taming of the Shrew'

Steamboat Springs High School presents Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew" at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the high school theater. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for children ages 13 to 18 and $5 for children 12 and younger and for students with activity passes. Tickets are available at All That Jazz.

Over the Hill Gang offers scholarships to athletes

Steamboat's Over the Hill Gang is offering financial assistance of as much as $1,000 per athlete for local winter sports competitors. The money is to be used for an athlete's education or skills improvements in their sport. Applicants must be attending or have graduated from a Routt County school or be a minimum two-year resident of the county. They also must be between 14 and 22 years old as of today.

Scholarship applications are available at all Routt County high schools, Steamboat Springs Middle School, The Lowell Whiteman School, Christian Heritage School, Colorado Mountain College and the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Suicide support group to meet once a month

Reaching Everyone Prevent--ing Suicide, or REPS, is offering a new monthly support group for those who have lost a loved one to or who have been touched by suicide. "Heartbeat of Routt County" will be held the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Visiting Nurse Association office, 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101. Hosts include Ronna Autrey and Laurie Marano, both of whom are local community members who have lost loved ones to suicide. For more information, call Ronna at 871-0682.

Health Resource Center seeking volunteers

The Community Health Resource Center is looking for computer-literate volunteers to work three hours a week. The center operates a medical lending library and conducts internet searches. Call Yampa Valley Medical Center or the resource center for more information.

Adult hockey league registration under way

Registration is under way for the Sunday Night Game, Steamboat Springs' premier adult hockey league. The cost is $250 plus a $25 USA Hockey registration. The costs include 16 games and playoffs. Interested players can sign up at Backdoor Sports at Ninth and Yampa streets. Call 879-6249.
