Steamboat Springs resident Evelyn Tiff Fortik Hall passed away peacefully Oct. 12, 2005, after a lengthy illness. She was 90.
Evelyn was born near Ansley, Neb., on Feb. 27, 1915, to John Franklin and Marie Harris Tiff. She had a twin sister named Ethelyn.
She grew up with three brothers and two other sisters, Howard, Edward, Floyd, Ruth and Lucial.
Evelyn attended school in Ansley and Berwyn, Neb. She married Emil Fortik on Oct. 23, 1933, in Loop City, Neb. The couple had four children, Marlene Jean, Donna Elaine, Bonnie Luciel and Donald Dean.
Evelyn and Emil farmed in Custer County until 1946. The family then moved to Steamboat Springs after buying a ranch in that area. Emil passed away in 1973.
Eventually, Evelyn remarried William P. Hall in 1978. He died in 1980.
She is survived by her sister, Lucial Kulhanek of Grand Junction; her four children, Marlene Hazen and her husband Kenneth of Rico, Donna Bowerman of Evergreen, Bonnie and her husband Del of Hutchinson, Kan., and Donald Dean and his wife Ann of Meeker; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Evelyn was a wonderful caring and loving mother who raised her children to love the Lord. She was a fine homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking. She was an excellent seamstress and was well-known for her beautiful wedding cakes. She was a faithful and loving Christian and looked forward to her heavenly home with Jesus.
A celebration of life took place Oct. 16, 2005, at the Euzoa Bible Church. The service was conducted by Pastor Rob Ryg with an interment following at the Steamboat Springs cemetery provided by the Yampa Valley Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Bill Padgett, Ron Pollard, Rich Hall, Sam Graziani, Glen Cox and Chuck Girton. Honorary pallbearers were Dean Fortik, Kenneth Hazen, Todd Jones, Wesley Fortik, T.K. Bowerman, Delbert Israel and Victor Klein.
