Clinics set for Alpine officials

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club is holding two clinics for Alpine ski race officials.

The first is at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Howelsen Hill Lodge. This clinic is the first step toward becoming licensed to officiate ski races. It is called the Competition Official clinic and will last about three hours.

The Winter Sports Club is holding, and frequently holds, a large number of ski races during the competitive ski season, but after you become a licensed official, you can officiate at any level.

"The first clinic teaches you what all the positions are on the hill, what each job description is," Esther DelliQuadri said. "It teaches you all the basic rules. You need this clinic before you take anything else."

The Competition Official Clin--ic is geared toward new parents coming into the Winter Sports Club, so they can learn more about the events their children participate in. It also is open to anyone interested in volunteering with the Winter Sports Club.

The second clinic is at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17 in the Howelsen Hill Lodge. This clinic will update all pre-existing licensed officials on the new rules adopted by the International Ski Federation.

The cost for both clinics is $5. Call DelliQuadri at 879-1346 with questions or call the Winter Sports Club at 879-0695.
