The start of the high school golf season isn't until August, but one of the biggest tournaments of the year is June 14.
"This tournament is huge in terms of fund raising," said Steve Dodson, Steamboat Springs High School golf coach. "The money we raise will be used to support our team next season."
The third annual Sailors Golf Shoot-out will be held at Catamount Ranch & Club.
The coach said the team uses several fund-raisers each season to raise money for the team, but the shoot-out is the biggest.
Entry forms for the tournament can be found at Catamount Ranch & Club pro shop or at Haymaker Golf Course. The cost to enter the tournament is $150 a person, and the deadline to enter is June 6. Forms can be mailed to Catamount Ranch & Club, attention Tom Taylor, at P.O. Box 774707.
Players will compete on four-person teams using a modified two-best-ball format. Players will need to arrive at the course at 10:30 a.m. to complete registration, and the tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start.
The entry fee for the tournament covers golf, cart, range pass, tee favors, lunch, auction, appetizers and awards.
"The previous two years of this event have been very successful, and we are looking forward to an even bigger and better tournament his year," Dodson said. " Everyone really enjoys the opportunity to play at Catamount, and the auction table always generates some excitement."
This year, Dodson said there will be a variety of golfing trips, tons of golf equipment, restaurant certificates, tickets to sporting events and many other items available in the live and silent auctions.
There also will be prizes for skills challenges and for the top teams in the tournament.
"The money raised through this event allows the Sailors golf program to travel to nearly a dozen tournaments in the fall and supplies the kids on our team with resources necessary to achieve the goals we set each year," Dodson said. "The success of our program is tied to the support we get from the community."
Dodson is hoping for a full field for the tournament again this year.
