Three big components come together to make Hayden Val--ley Summerfest a success: Entertainment, food and craft vendors.
The Town of Hayden Rec--reation Department has the first two covered. They need a little more help with the third part.
Few arts and crafts vendors have signed up to sell their wares during the fourth annual Summerfest, to be held July 2 in Town Park. That may be because the event is the same day as the Art on the Mountain Festival in Steamboat Springs.
Recreation coordinator Lind--say Heer said that unusual, useful items such as wind chimes, stained glass, costume jewelry, garden decorations and children's items tend to do well at Summerfest.
Vendors pay a $15 fee to be in the festival and provide their own shade tents.
Glenn and Audrey Pritchard of Craig have sold their handmade jewelry and wood and antler furniture at two Summerfests.
"We just like the laid back atmosphere," Glenn Pritchard said. "It's a nice, relaxed show."
This year, there should be no shortage of people to peruse vendor's crafts. The day's schedule is filled with entertainment including music from the Yampa Valley Boys, Hired Gun and Blue Rooster.
There also will be a martial arts demonstration and African dancers, and Stretch, the 9-foot clown, will be on hand to teach children and adults how to walk on stilts.
New to the festival will be a car show featuring classic and unusual cars, including "Herbie the Lovebug," a race car at the Hayden Speedway.
"We are going to have a really awesome festival this year," said Heer, who is looking for more car owners to participate in the free show.
Summerfest will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Vendors must have a sales tax license to participate. Sales tax forms are available at Heer's office in Town Hall.
