The Steamboat Springs girls lacrosse team wrapped up its season with three wins at a tournament in Vail during the weekend.
"It was successful, and we are all looking forward to next year," Sailors coach Kevin Nerney said.
Steamboat played Breckenridge, Vail and Eagle County. All three teams are on the verge of becoming varsity programs.
"We will have a Western Slope League next year," Nerney said.
The development of programs closer to Steamboat ensures shorter road trips for the Sailors, who frequently have to travel to the Denver- and Boulder-area to play games.
Next season, Nerney said he is going to reach out to girls in South Routt, Hayden and Moffat County to gauge their interest in the sport.
Without any official programs at those schools, the girls are welcome to practice and play in Steamboat.
