LIFT-UP center closed through Wednesday

The LIFT-UP Donation Center will be closed through Wednesday because of a lack of space for all the generous donations that have been given. The Donation Center will reopen from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. Call 879-3374.

Emergency food being distributed at LIFT-UP

Emergency food is being distributed through The Emergency Food Assistance Program at LIFT-UP of Routt County offices. Each eligible household can receive TEFAP foods once per quarter, and the distribution period for the second quarter began April 1 and ends June 30. Food will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Call 870-8804 from 1 to 5 p.m. weekdays for more information about income eligibility and hours of operation for the Steamboat Springs, Hayden and Oak Creek LIFT-UP offices.

Emerald City Opera holding auditions

Emerald City Opera is holding auditions for this summer's opera production, The Merry Widow (sung in English) at 7 p.m. May 10 at the United Methodist Church in Steamboat Springs and at 7 p.m. May 11 in the Moffat County High School Choir Room. Fifteen adult men and 15 adult women are needed. Interested singers should call 879-1996.

BLM seeking vendors, equipment for fire season

The Bureau of Land Management is in the process of signing up vendors and equipment for the coming fire season. Individuals and businesses that have equipment and are interested in getting signed up for emergency-equipment rental agreements, and vendors interested in providing meals for firefighters, should contact Scott Wintemute at 826-5027 or e-mail at swintemu@blm.gov.

Noxious weed management training class being offered

A noxious weed management training class will be offered, starting May 12.

The class is offered by the Routt County Weed Control office and the Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Service.

The class will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on four consecutive Thursdays.

The classes cover weed identification, plant biology, integrated pest management, and the EPA private pesticide applicator license test. Those who pass the EPA test will receive their pesticide applicator licenses for use on their agricultural land in about six weeks.

The class is geared toward owners of rural land. Class size is limited. The cost is $30.

Call the Extension Service by Thursday at 879-0825 to sign up.

United Way celebrating 9th annual Day of Caring

The Routt County United Way is celebrating its ninth annual Day of Caring on the morning of May 11. The Day of Caring is an opportunity for people of all ages throughout Routt County to participate in projects that help the elderly, people with disabilities and disadvantaged people. United Way matches nonprofit organizations and their clients with volunteers who may like to help with a project. Lunch will be provided and served by Ski Town Lions at noon at Olympian Hall for all volunteers. Call the Routt County United Way at 879-5605.
