News in brief for March 31

9Health Fair set for 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday

The annual 9Health Fair will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Steamboat Springs Middle School. The fair offers free information and health screenings, as well as $5 colorectal cancer test kits, $30 blood tests and $25 PSA tests for men.

The 9Health Fair, sponsored by Yampa Valley Medical Center, is one of only 40 sites in Colorado this year to offer a blood count test for $15. Also new this year are free finger-stick blood glucose tests.

Health care professionals and community volunteers will check height and weight, vision, hearing and blood pressure. Lung function, balance, oral health, foot screenings and skin checks are also free. Representatives from numerous nonprofit health care and support groups will be present to discuss their programs and provide information about sleep disorders, autism, Alzheimer's disease and more.

Members of the YVMC Ethics Committee will be available to help people fill out living wills and other advance directives.

Registration is on-site at the fair. All blood tests require 12-hours of fasting. People who got early blood tests from March 15 to 18 may pick up their results at the fair with photo identification.
