Sam Haslem: Future of the county

It seems to me the Steamboat city government officials are shooting themselves in the collective foot by spending so much money on the Recreation in Stream Diversion Issue and lobbying against Sen. Jack Taylor's bill.
Apparently the total is more than $200,000 and growing.
First and foremost, their near-sighted actions are a hard slap at any further development in South Routt, as well as the entire agricultural industry in the county. The news of the excellent quality of water in Yampa is great for future rural development in Yampa as well as other activities discussed and planned in South Routt.
I have no quarrel with summer recreation, but I wonder why Steamboat Springs chased off the cutting horse people, and before that, forced the classic sport car race event out of town. Both of these events brought serious spending of tourist money to town.
Please remember that those who live in other small communities in Routt County but spend money in Steamboat Springs are a part of the future of Routt County.
