Variety of Easter week events planned


The ministerial association will sponsor the "Ecumenical Stations of the Cross," a commemoration of Christ's journey with the cross.

The Stations of the Cross begins at 12:15 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church. From there, participants will walk with a cross to various points of Old Town, stopping at specific places to pray. For example, the group will stop at the school administration building to pray for the children of the community and at the courthouse to pray for local government.

The Stations of the Cross is one of several Easter events scheduled this weekend. Several communities are hosting Easter egg hunts, and area churches have scheduled special services.

An Easter Sunrise Service is at 6:45 a.m. on Mount Werner. The gondola opens at 6 a.m. to take worshippers up the mountain and those wishing to participate are encouraged to be ready to load by 6 a.m. Tim Selby, associate pastor at the United Methodist Church, will lead the sunrise service.

Steamboat Springs, Hayden and Oak Creek all plan Eatser egg hunts.

Steamboat's 30th annual Easter Egg Hunt is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Howelsen Hill. The event is for children ages 3 to 9. Children should bring their own baskets and mud boots.

Hayden's Easter Egg Hunt is at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hayden Town Park for children in third grade and younger. Children should bring baskets.

Oak Creek will host an Easter Festival on Saturday in Decker Park. Events include an Easter bonnet contest at 10:30 a.m. and an Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m.

Two area churches will show Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ." The movie will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday at Euzoa Bible Church and at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Hayden Congregational Church.

The following is a list of Easter church services:

Steamboat Christian Center, 821 Dougherty Road, has a Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Easter morning service is at 10 a.m.

The First Baptist Church's Easter service begins at 8:30 a.m. and is followed by a brunch at 10 a.m. The church is at 3200 Divine Way.

Anchor Way Baptist Church, 40650 Anchor Way, will have Easter morning services at 8:45 and 10:45 a.m. The church's Spanish language service is at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Hayden's Mission of Grace Baptist Church Easter service is at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Holy Name Catholic Church, 524 Oak St., will hold Mass of the Lord's Supper at 7 p.m. today, a Celebration of the Lord's Passion at 5:30 p.m. Friday, and Solemn Mass of the Easter Vigil at 7 p.m. Saturday. Easter Masses are scheduled at 8 a.m., 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Oak Creek will host Mass of the Lord's Supper at 5 p.m. today and Celebration of the Lord's Passion at 7 p.m. Friday. Easter Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Steamboat Church of Christ, 1698 W. Lincoln Ave., hosts a worship service at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Concordia Lutheran Church, 755 Concordia Lane, will hold a Maundy Thursday Communion service at 7 p.m. today and a Good Friday Service at 7 p.m. Friday. Easter Sunrise Service is at 6:30 a.m. Sunday with a breakfast to follow. The church also has services at 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. And the church will host an Easter egg hunt from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Ninth and Oak streets, will host a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. today and a Good Friday liturgy at 7 p.m. Friday. The Great Vigil of Easter is at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Festival Eucharist is at 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday.

The United Methodist Church, Eighth and Oak streets, will host a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. today. The church also will host Celia Whitler in concert at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The church will host its sunrise service at 6:45 a.m. Sunday on Mount Werner. Easter services also are at 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday at the church.

Euzoa Bible Church will hold Easter services at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday at the church's campus in Strawberry Park. There will be no Euzoa@Night service at the high school.

The Steamboat Springs Evangelical Free Church meets at 10 a.m. Sunday at Christian Heritage School.

The Hayden Congre-gational Church will host a shadows candle service retelling the Gospel story of the last supper at 7:30 p.m. today. A sunrise service is at 6:30 a.m. at the Hayden Cemetery. A breakfast will be served at 7 a.m., followed by a worship service at 10:30 a.m. at the church, 202 E. Jefferson Ave. in Hayden.

The Seventh Day Adventist Church, 347 12th St., hosts worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday.

An interdenominational Easter Service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the North Routt Community Charter School. Call Tom at 734-7345.
