Ron Pollard: What are you afraid of?

I was not surprised by the basic thrust of the editorial that there was something being sneaked into our high school.
After studying the article, I would suggest the Editorial Board had a not-so-hidden agenda. The editorial made the point that the curriculum was "developed to introduce students to Christian beliefs and to advance the agenda of those who think that religion -- specifically Christianity -- should have a greater role in our public schools." This was made without, to the best of my knowledge, any knowledge of the curriculum itself or how it specifically must be taught, and is indeed, being taught in 292 school districts in 35 states.
I am quite familiar with the program and have signed the petition hoping it will provide the following:
First, those Christian students who decide to take it, will learn far more how the works of their God has provided the basic structure for everything that has made America and Western civilization what it is today. This type of history will be brought out specifically and in a context not emphasized in standard church doctrine.
Secondly, a non-churched student after taking it might indeed decide to look further into it on a personal level aside from historical. I think that would be great, not for me but for the student. If a further pursuit of the Bible did not interest him, he had his credit and could move on. I unfortunately did not ask Jesus Christ into my life until I was almost 40, and although having been very successful in the world's eye, I didn't know real peace, direction and fulfillment until then. I would hope the same for all young people.
As far as a class on comparative religions goes, I would welcome the class if it were taught completely fairly to all sides. Christianity has nothing to fear from any religion.
There are those, evidently like the members of the Editorial Board, who would like to keep the greatest book ever written out of public life no matter what that damage would be. Ask yourself, what is really the danger? This is an elective class. What are you afraid of?
