Good commentary
"Keep Bible out" in last Sunday's Pilot & Today was the best and most articulate treatment of religious encroachment into schools and government that I have seen in a long time.
What's the big deal?
I cannot understand why the Pilot & Today continues to make a big deal out of Bibles in our schools. What is it that you are afraid of? How could the Gideons passing out Bibles at the middle school or a class on the Bible at the high school harm our students in any way? Your response is so typical of the media -- if it's about God and religion, just say no. Have ye no faith?
Yampa Meadows
The city should approve the current gravel mining development and proposal for the Yampa Meadows property east of the city limits. Then they should incorporate that within the city.
Get it done
Move the gravel. Approve Yampa Meadows. Let's get it done already.
Just say no
I don't like the gravel piles any more than anyone else, but you can't reward someone for thumbing his nose at the system. Say no to Yampa Meadows.
Sales tax question
I thought the sales tax was for technology. Either the schools no longer need money for computers, or they are above following rules. The tax should be rescinded.
Steamboat's addiction
Steamboat has an addiction. Its poor control over growth and lack of planned housing has affected the entire county. Steamboat has little housing for its service and working class employees. So Hayden, Oak Creek, Milner, Phippsburg and Yampa have become its low-income bail out. They need the land above Howelson Hill so they trade it for the surrounding communities' property. ow they need gravel for their growth habit and it seems again other communities may have to pay for their lack of foresight.
Modest proposal
Gas prices, mileage and public opinion: I think we are all looking at the wrong side of the issue when we talk about gas-guzzling vehicles and gas prices. What about our major cities and towns, highways, and such that could do a lot to improve the environment and gas mileage of vehicles? It should be a simple matter for them to synchronize the traffic lights to keep traffic flowing at the right speed, so that they make the lights if they drive at a sane pace. It reduces congestion, reduces speeding and reduces the amount of gas people use racing to the light, sitting at the light, racing to the next one, etc. All it takes is a bit of planning and computerization, all of which is very common nowadays, right?
