Two Routt County basketball teams' seasons are going strong, thanks to the weekend's postseason wins.
The Steamboat Springs boys defeated Ranum, 83-67, on Saturday to advance to the Sweet 16 in Class 4A.
The Hayden girls beat Meeker, 46-45, on Friday, earning one of two regional spots reserved for Class 2A District 5 teams.
Steamboat (21-2) faces D'Evelyn (20-4) at 7:45 p.m. Friday at Metro State College in Denver. Hayden (11-11) faces Nucla (12-9) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Grand Junction High School.
If the Tigers win, they advance to the Class 2A Girls State Tournament in Pueblo. Nucla is a guard-oriented team without much height.
"I haven't seen a game film of them yet, but I will," Hayden coach Jayme Adams said. "They have one senior guard who is definitely their best player."
If the Sailors win, they will move into the round of eight and play again at 8 p.m. Saturday at Metro State. They will play Centaurus (21-3) or Longmont (18-6).
D'Evelyn defeated Steamboat by 17 points Dec. 3. D'Evelyn is a tall, athletic team. The Sailors can't get lured into running with the Jaguars.
"They are extremely explosive," Steamboat coach Kelly Meek said. "How tempo goes will determine a lot about the game. That and rebounding."
Steamboat's playoff games can be heard on KRMR 100.5 and 107.3 FM.
