Naked man reported at ski area
Monday, June 27, 2005
A naked man reportedly was seen at the Steamboat Ski Area on Sunday.
A nude man was seen at 12:30 p.m. standing in the woods next to a trail at the top of the Thunderhead Lift line, Routt County Undersheriff Dan Taylor said. Police responded to the scene but could not locate the man.
"When we got there, nobody who matched that description was there," Taylor said.
The Sheriff's Office did not have any more information from the caller, other than that "the person was standing there naked," Taylor said.
What the person was doing, how he got there or where he went is unknown.
Had the naked man been found, he could have been charged with indecent exposure. Taylor said that charge typically is a misdemeanor but can escalate depending on what the person was doing and what his or her intent was.
"It doesn't matter where you're at," Taylor said. "Even on your own property, it's illegal to be naked if it's offensive to someone else."
Recently, Taylor said a man who was naked on his own property was charged with indecent exposure because other people saw him and were offended. Most people, he said, consider nudity offensive.
