Yampa Valley Electric Association held its annual meeting Saturday morning in Hayden and elected three new board members.
Frank "Pud" Stetson was elected for the District 2 seat, which includes areas west of Craig, winning with 1,338 votes. Bill Haight won the District 6 seat, which includes North Routt County, with 677 votes, and Jim Simons, who ran unopposed, was elected for the District 3 seat, which includes part of Craig.
Seven people ran for the two contested seats on the nine-member Board of Directors.
Spokesman Jim Chappell said that about 150 people attended the annual meeting and about half of them were community members.
"It was a pretty good turnout," he said.
The results were tabulated from mail-in ballots and about 70 ballots that were cast at the meeting. YVEA sent out almost 18,000 ballots at the end of May, and Chappell said that about 2,000 to 2,500 of them were sent back.
Larry Covillo, president and general manager of YVEA, said in a speech that YVEA is looking to purchase a portion of a coal-fired power plant that Xcel Energy is proposing to build in Pueblo.
Chappell said the board of directors will investigate Covillo's proposal and make a decision in the near future.
Covillo also said that YVEA returned $2.6 million to its member-owners this year.
Another thing YVEA presented to the community was the lowered number of electric-outage minutes people experienced.
Chappell said that YVEA has lower average outage minutes a month than the national average.
Right now, electric customers nationwide experience an average of 20 outage minutes a month. YVEA's average is 6.2 minutes a month.
"That number is down when compared to previous years," Chappell said.
Covillo also told the community that he does not expect any rate adjustments for the rest of the year. YVEA had a rate increase that went into effect June 1.
YVEA's service territory includes Steamboat Springs, Yampa, Craig, Hayden and Baggs, Wyo. YVEA does not serve Oak Creek.
