Two Steamboat Springs athletes were recognized by Colorado Ski Country USA at its annual meeting and forum in Telluride last week.
Alpine skier Drew Roberts and freestyle skier Eliza Outtrim, both of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, were named the Male All-Star and Female All-Star Athletes of the Year.
Roberts and Outtrim are U.S. Ski Team members.
"Everything in Drew's life is dedicated to becoming the best athlete he can be," said Darlene Nolting, the Rocky Mountain Division competition and division manager. "Drew is a leader in the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, and many of the athletes look up to him and admire him. He is an exemplary role model for young athletes
Roberts' season was highlighted by a victory in the NorAm slalom at Sunday River, Maine, in January. Roberts beat other U.S. Ski Team and Canadian national team members in the race.
Outtrim, a Colorado College student, overcame a knee surgery two seasons ago and has climbed to seventh in the latest national points list. She won a NorAm in Killington, Vt., and was second in the Grand Prix NorAm standings.
"Eliza is a dedicated freestyle mogul skier," said Garth Hager, head freestyle coach with the Winter Sports Club. "She dedicates the winter term to full-time skiing and trains in the summer in Canada and New Zealand. She is always striving to be the best and has an extremely positive attitude."
Each year, coaches, resort supervisors and managers nominate outstanding candidates from their resort. Then, the selected CSCUSA judges choose award finalists based on an application letter and interview.
