Sometimes, food is the best way to show appreciation.
That's the idea behind Hayden Appreciation Day, a free barbecue lunch for the community sponsored by the Yampa Valley Electric Association, the Hayden Chamber of Commerce and local businesses.
The event is from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday in Hayden Town Park.
It will follow YVEA's annual meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. in the Hayden High School auditorium. During the meeting, officials will announce winners of elections for the association's board of directors and update financial information and other YVEA happenings.
Meeting registration starts at 9:30 a.m.
About 200 people usually attend the lunch in Hayden Town Park. Local businesses, including the Hayden Mercantile, Full Belly Deli and the Groundhog Cafe, provide food including barbecue chicken and salads.
Volunteers, including County Commissioner Doug Monger, will serve food to residents.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife will stock Dry Creek with trout for the event. The trout were intended for Huck Finn Day, which was canceled June 4 because of high water in the creek.
Children need to bring fishing poles and bait.
In the event of bad weather, the lunch will be held in the Hayden Middle School cafeteria.
