Board of Realtors event turns 30

The Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors has been helping area students pay for college for the past 29 years.

This year, the group celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors Scholarship Golf Classic, Dinner and Auction.

The dinner and silent and live auctions are at 6 p.m. June 14 at Three Peaks Grill. The golf tournament is a shotgun start at 8 a.m. June 15 at the Sheraton Steamboat Golf Club. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for Routt County high school seniors.

This spring, the Board of Realtors presented 34 scholarships to area teens.

Jody Scott, executive officer of the Board of Realtors, wasn't around when the inaugural event took place nearly 30 years ago. But she said the combination of dinner, auctions and golf has worked great.

"We devoted these funds specifically to the youth of our community," Scott said. "It's a big way we give back. It's been highly successful. We have so many volunteers from affiliate business partners, realtor members and members of the community."

The cost to enter is $150 a person and includes the golf tournament, dinner and the auctions.

Registration for the golf tournament is at 6:30 a.m. June 15, which is a tad early for Scott's taste. But golfers seem to like early tee times, she said.

"There are a lot of prizes donated," Scott said. "All of the holes are sponsored with giveaways and drawings."
