Nominations wanted for national committee

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is accepting nominations for members to serve on the Advisory Committee on Beginning Farmers and Ranchers.

The 20-member committee advises the Secretary of Agriculture about ways to encourage federal and state programs to provide financing and new opportunities for new farmers and ranchers.

Appointments are for two-year terms. Members are not paid but are reimbursed for travel expenses related to annual meetings.

To qualify, members must be farmers or ranchers or belong to one of the following groups: USDA's Farm Service Agency, state or private nonprofits with beginning farmer and ranchers programs, commercial lenders, the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service, educational institutions with experience in training beginning farmers and ranchers and other groups providing lending or technical assistance to beginning farmers and ranchers.

Eligible candidates can nominate themselves. Nominations will be accepted until June 17.

Board of Realtors seeks golfers, donated items

The Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors is seeking golfers and donated items for its scholarship dinner, auction and tournament June 14 and 15. The dinner and auction are at 6 p.m. June 14 at Three Peaks Grill. The golf tournament begins with a shortgun start at 8 a.m. June 15 at the Sheraton Steamboat Golf Club. Proceeds will benefit the 2006 college scholarship program.

Ladies golf league hosts tournament June 14

The Steamboat Ladies Golf League will host the Howdy Partner Golf Tournament at 9 a.m. June 14 at the Steamboat Golf Club. The cost is $50 a person and includes a continental breakfast before the event and lunch afterward at the Steamboat Yacht Club. The format is two-person, best ball.
