Former Steamboat Springs resident Clara Ann "Charlie" Powers passed away May 4, 2005, in her hometown of Tulsa, Okla. She was 57.
Charlie was born Dec, 9, 1947. Charlie had worked locally at the Century 21 Realtors in Steamboat Springs, starting out as a secretary and then becoming an agent and finally a broker. She also worked at the Steamboat Chamber of Commerce. She started the Diet Center in Steamboat and was involved with her husband in his fur business that was located on the mountain.
She moved back to Tulsa in 1989, where she became a licensed broker, agent and closer in Tulsa. She was well-respected for her work and her professionalism. She had a great zest for life and was known for her flamboyant way of dressing and her eclectic spirit. She had become a member of the Grace Methodist Church and was active in their bible study. She was proud to be a 14-year breast cancer survivor and enjoyed participating annually in the local "Race for a Cure."
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles A. Powers, her grandmother, Wreatha Belle Caldwell, and her aunt, Dorothy L. Caldwell. She is survived by her mother, Clara Belle Powers of Tulsa and daughter and son-in-law, Kellie and J.D. Smith of Toutle, Wash., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her memorial service was held May 7, 2005, in Tulsa at Moor's Funeral Home and internment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.
