David Criste: Justice center circus
Advertisement
After the county commissioners signed off on the area plan, they decided to build a new courthouse with room for all necessary offices and personnel in a downtown campus in Steamboat Springs.
More than $2 million was spent, and two properties were condemned to acquire the necessary property.
Then the county commissioners decided to move the building west of downtown, spending almost $2 million more to acquire property and deciding to spend an unknown sum to remodel and enlarge the downtown courthouse. Now, with the new courthouse moved to the west, there wouldn't be a campus that had enough room downtown.
Whew! Is anyone else confused by this circus? Perhaps it's time for those of us who pay the bills to "make a statement" to the county commissioners with a recall election.
