Reiter in 10th in giant slalom

Snowboarder Justin Reiter placed 10th in a parallel giant slalom at the World Championships in Whistler, British Columbia, on Tuesday afternoon.
"This is a great finish for Justin," coach Thedo Remmelink said. "He's been working toward the goal of getting to the 2006 Olympics, and this was a big step for him."
Reiter was one of five Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club snowboarders to earn an invitation to the championships, which are held in off-Olympic years and draw the best riders in the world.
Reiter represented the United States, Kimiko Zakreski represented Canada, Johanna Shaw represented Australia, Eden Serina represented the Philippines, and Jen Grace competed for Ireland. All the riders train with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club under coach Remmelink.
Jasey Jay Anderson of Canada won Tuesday's PGS event. He was followed by Urs Eiselin of Switzerland in second and Nicolas Huet of France in third. Adam Smith, who beat Reiter in the first round after qualification, was the top American finisher in fourth place.
The only other Americans riding in Tuesday's event were U.S. Ski Team members Kris Klug and Peter Thorndike. Klug finished in 15th, and Thorndike was 44th.
Manuela Riegler of Austria won the women's event. Michelle Gorgone, who trained for several years with the Winter Sports Club, was 11th.
