The Hayden Town Board on Thursday will consider a petition to annex the Routt County Fairgrounds to the town.
The petition, which was approved by the Board of County Commissioners at its last meeting, is the next step in annexing the fairgrounds.
"There's always been a feeling the fairgrounds should have been a part of Hayden," Town Manager Russ Martin said, noting the annexation will not have any negative implications on the Routt County Fair or fairground operations.
Having the fairgrounds officially part of the town will have logistical advantages including making it easier for law enforcement to respond to incidents, he said.
Overall, the annexation will solidify an already good working relationship between Routt County and Hayden, Martin said.
The board likely will schedule a public hearing to formerly consider the annexation on Feb. 17, the board's next meeting.
Also Thursday, the board will consider petitions to annex three properties near the fairgrounds on the north side of Poplar Street. With the annexation of the fairgrounds, the Bertram, Jazwick and Kistler properties will be surrounded by town boundaries.
Colorado law stipulates that "islands" of properties within city boundaries eventually must be annexed, Martin said.
The town has facilitated the annexation process to make it easier on the landowners, he said.
If the board determines that the petitions are complete, a public hearing for the annexations will be scheduled for Feb. 17.
In other business:
n The board will consider an ordinance renewing a 25-year franchise agreement with Yampa Valley Electric Association. Under the agreement, YVEA pays a fee to use roads and other property owned and maintained by the town.
The town has similar agreements with all utility companies.
n Unlike Thursday's Town Board meeting, which Martin expects to be fairly short, a Hayden Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Jan. 13 likely will be more involved. The commission is scheduled to consider sketch plans for the first phase of a proposed development south of the Sagewood subdivision.
West Routt Properties LLC will present sketch plans for Lake Village, the first phase of the proposed Villages at Hayden development. The first phase would have about 200 mixed residential lots, Martin said.
West Routt Properties developed plans for The Villages at Hayden project earlier this year after proposing the Sunburst Ranch residential and commercial subdivision. Some developers in the original development team, 4S Development, reorganized to plan The Villages project.
Thursday's Town Board meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Hayden Town Hall.
