Columbine singers open season at 7 p.m. Jan. 18
Columbine Singers of Colorado Mountain College begins the spring semester at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at the United Methodist Church. Anyone who enjoys singing is encouraged to join. Advocates offering class for mothers, daughters
Advocates Against Battering and Abuse is offering a self-defense class for mothers and teenage daughters from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Call 879-2034
Audition to become a 'Goldilocks' performer

Arts council seeking trained art volunteers
The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is looking for people to volunteer for its docent program. Volunteers will receive a 12-class course of instruction during six weeks beginning mid-January. Docents are trained volunteers who work at the Depot Art Center helping to interpret and explain the various exhibitions to visitors. After training, docents are expected to commit to 10 to 12 hours monthly of volunteer work that will include Depot gallery attendant, jurying exhibitions and hanging and take-down of exhibits. Receive a free educational course by knowledgeable instructors, expand and enrich your knowledge and love of the arts, learn new skills, meet new people and open new doors. Beginning Tai Chi classes Mondays, Wednesdays
Steamboat Springs Tai Chi Academy presents Beginning Tai Chi classes from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Studio 2 at the old junior high school, 325 Seventh St. The cost is $30 a month. Call Larry Glueck at 879-7560.
Get fit in a Colorado Mountain College class
Colorado Mountain College is accepting registration for spring semester fitness classes including step/bosu aerobics, low-impact aerobics and group resistance classes. The cost is $49 with classes twice a week beginning Jan. 17. Call 846-3356 for information or 870-4444 to register.
Information on veterans' benefits is available
Military veterans can get information about veterans' benefits and programs by calling 879-5489 or stopping by the Routt County Veterans Services Office, in the Colorado Workforce Center in Sundance at Fish Creek. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. Bring your DD Form 214 for registration with the county, application for Veterans Administration programs and for filing with the VSO office.
Permits available to cut firewood in national forest
Permits to cut firewood in the Routt National Forest are available from the U.S. Forest Service visitors' center at 925 Weiss Drive. Firewood permits are $20 and allow gathering up to two cords of firewood. People may buy multiple permits, and one permit is necessary for every pickup or trailer-load of wood removed from the forest. Call 870-1870.
Alternative high school seeking donated supplies
Steamboat Springs alternative high school is seeking donated supplies. Items that are needed include a mini-refrigerator and white boards. Those interested in donating to the school should call Marlene Horace at 871-3192.
East Routt Library District seeking board members
The East Routt Library District Board of Trustees, which oversees Bud Werner Memorial Library, is seeking interested individuals to serve on the library board.
