Routt County has hired a new fair board coordinator, about two months after Terry Doherty resigned from the position in January.
Jill Altman was hired to take Doherty's place. Altman will begin Monday.
Altman worked for seven years for the Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Service in Routt County and for the past four years, she has worked for the International Erosion Control Association, Doherty said.
Altman was out of town and could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Monday will be Altman's first day and Doherty's last. Both will be at the exhibit hall at the fairgrounds for an open house, in which residents can meet Altman and say goodbye to Doherty.
In related business, the Routt County Board of Commissioners agreed to remove two Fair Board members because of repeated absences from meetings.
The Fair Board has nine members now, Doherty said, and at its last meeting, it had just enough members to have a quorum.
There are five applicants for one open spot left recently by Joni Schaffer, whose term expired. Doherty said Fair Board members thought it was reasonable to remove the two members who consistently were not participating in meetings, instead of turning four applicants away.
Peter Daley and Jerry Morehead were removed from the Fair Board. Both men work diligently during the fair itself, but Daley was absent from two-thirds of the past 13 meetings, and Morehead was absent from half of those meetings, according to a letter from the Routt County Fair Association to the Routt County Board of Commissioners.
According to by-laws of the Routt County Fair Association, if a Fair Board member does not attend three consecutive meetings of the Fair Board, the member can be removed.
"With Jill starting, I think she needs a board ... that consistently attends," Doherty said.
The five applicants for three positions will be interviewed March 9 before the Fair Board's regular meeting.
