Rotary names Toy student of the month
Amanda Toy, a senior at Steamboat Springs High School, was named the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club's January student of the month. Amanda is the daughter of Joel and Cindy Toy.
Amanda has a near-perfect grade point average and is enrolled in five advanced placement courses. Amanda is a National Merit Commended Scholar and was selected as an Academic All-American by the National Forensics League. Last summer, she attended Stanford University's Junior Statesman Summer School program.
Amanda re-started the high school newspaper and has served as its editor for the past three years.
As a sophomore, she was nominated to receive the Dottie Lamb Award from The Women's Foundation of Colorado. She is the foundation's only student trustee.
Amanda has been a state and national qualifier in speech and debate, helped establish an honor code for the high school, is active in Future Business Leaders of America and is a member of the school's tennis team. She is vice president of the senior class and a volunteer for LIFT-UP. Amanda recently was made a finalist for the Boettcher Scholarship.
