Washington endures bad snow season

Ski Area Management magazine reported that as of Feb. 11, ski areas in Washington were struggling to stay open.

Most Washington ski areas closed after a rain storm dumped several inches of liquid precipitation in the area from Jan. 17 to 20. Even Mt. Baker and Crystal Mountain were closed for two weeks.

Mount Baker was open Thursday with a base ranging from 38 to 48 inches.

The Associated Press reported that after receiving at least 20 inches of snow since last weekend, the Stevens Pass ski resort reported it would partially reopen downhill ski runs Thursday, and Crystal Mountain planned to reopen some lifts Sunday.
