Sound Off for Feb. 6

Overstepping bounds

The mayor of Oak Creek and Town Board overstepped their bounds when they passed a resolution condemning the Patriot Act. They do not speak for all citizens of Oak Creek. We are supposed to have a government for the people and by the people, but in Oak Creek, we have government for the mayor and by the mayor, and the Town Board allows it.

Share tax revenue

Yes, I think the half-cent sales tax should be shared with the other districts because they come into town and spend money.

Land swap good

The Emerald Mountain land swap will open 6,000 acres to the public. This space stretches from downtown to Cow Creek and to the backside of Country Green and all the way back to the top of Emerald Mountain. Everyone should thank the BLM and the Emerald Mountain Partnership for their efforts to protect this land for generations to come from the growth and development that is changing the landscape of Routt County.

Water rights, wrongs

It now seems that the city is going against Jack Taylor in regard to the recreation water right issue. Should the city be using our tax dollars to fight a bill that our own state senator is promoting? I do not use the Yampa for recreation and would rather see our city and state elected officials together on this issue, rather than spending our tax dollars on this fight. I, for one, think that the ranchers should have the resources they need to keep their farms and livestock healthy, and recreation should stay in the back seat.

Straight poop

What is it about owning a dog that brings out the worst character in some dog owners? This town and community are covered with dog waste. I've never seen it so bad. It is on trails, paths, sidewalks, curb sites, streets, playgrounds, private property, public property ... everywhere. Why do some dog owners think they are so special that they don't have to clean up after their dogs? Why are some dog owners so inconsiderate and disrespectful of their own neighborhoods? Owning a dog is a pleasure and a pain. But there are responsibilities. It is so simple -- bend over, clean it up with a plastic bag, put it in the trash. Why can't they do it?
