Steamboat Storm gets better of Edge twice
Wednesday, February 2, 2005
Two of the three Steamboat Springs women's hockey teams faced each other in a weekend series at Howelsen Ice Arena that both teams were anticipating.
The Steamboat Storm and the Steamboat Edge compete in the Women's Association of Colorado Hockey Mountain Division as part of the B league, and the Storm got the better of the Edge in both weekend games, winning 4-0 and 7-1.
The Storm scored four goals in the second period to win Friday night.
"I am very proud of the way we played," Edge coach Kit Rice said. "We held them scoreless in the first and third periods. I am so proud of this team, considering this is the first year we have really played together."
Steamboat has three women's hockey teams, including the Chix with Stix, which competes at the A level. The Storm and Edge play in the Mountain Division with teams from Vail, Eagle, Aspen, Glenwood Springs and Craig.
The Edge started the season off strong, winning its first three games, despite competing against teams with larger, deeper benches. The Storm has a slightly larger roster, has been established longer than the Edge and has been playing well after dropping several early season games that team members thought they should have won.
