Sometimes, a good book or an old movie is the perfect comfort for tired legs and frigid fingers.

That is where the Bud Werner Memorial Library comes in, and staff members said the library is a hot spot on cold winter days and nights.

"We have a lot of people come in," said Alison Lambert, youth services manager.

The library, at 1289 Lincoln Ave. in downtown Steamboat Springs, has a wide selection of books, movies and DVDs.

The library also offers a variety of free programs for all ages.

"It's just a good place to come hang out," Lambert said. "A lot of kids come in."

The children's area is downstairs. On some mornings, the area is filled with children singing and dancing for story-time.

A list of activities is at www.steamboatlibrary.com, and story-times are ongoing, with Tuesday and Wednesday sessions at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.

"We pretty much have all ages covered," Lambert said. "Coming up in January, we will be reading dinosaur books."

The library also will be starting a hodgepodge story-time at 3:30 p.m. Thursdays. Lambert is looking to set a time and date for a pajama story-time.

The library is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Michelle Dover, the front desk supervisor, said the free Internet access, as well as the ability to check out movies and DVDs brings in adults and young adults during the busy holiday weeks in Steamboat.

Locals can get a library card upstairs. Guests can get a guest card or family card to check out items.

"The Western collection is of interest to tourists," Dover said.

The Western collection in------cludes items to acquaint loc----als and visitors with Steamboat's history.
