Welcome back, Aaron Haskins.
In his first varsity action of the season, the Hayden sophomore captured second at the tough West Grand Tournament on Saturday in Kremmling.
Haskins wrestled last season but didn't come out for the sport at the start of this year. He changed his mind, got his required nine practices in and opened the season in impressive fashion at 189 pounds.
Haskins was one of four Tig--ers to place in West Grand. Senior David Blair was second at 145 pounds. Freshman Coy Letlow was second at 152 pounds, and freshman Mitchell Vedepo was fourth at 112 pounds.
"It was a doozy," Hayden coach Ty Zabel said about the 19-team tournament. "The boys wrestled tough."
Middle Park won the tournament, but the Tigers just missed out on finishing third in the team race. Moffat County was third with 103.5 team points. Hayden finished with 103 points, a great result as the Tigers head into the extended holiday break.
Hayden resumes the season at the Paonia Dual Mixer at 6 p.m. Jan. 6 in Paonia and will wrestle at the Paonia Tournament on Jan. 7.
The Tigers are trying to finalize what wrestlers will compete at certain weights, but that will have to be decided when they come back from the holiday break.
