Sound Off for Dec. 18

No real estate offices

I don't think you should allow real estate offices on Lincoln Avenue or the base of the ski area. You don't see any used car sales offices on sidewalks, why have used house salesmen have special privileges?

Paul Hughes firing

I'm calling to express my dismay and absolute displeasure. Paul Hughes is an honest, decent person. Whether you agree with him, he retired and is ready to move on. For the City Council to come forward the way it did and set this up as a firing is a great disservice to Mr. Hughes and all his hard work over the years and to the community -- as we're at a pivotal point right now. I am truly dismayed by our newly elected council.

After reading today's paper, I just wanted to say it sounds as if certain council members had a premeditated orchestration of the firing of Paul Hughes. I think the way they went about it is unethical and immoral. They talk about a fresh start, but I don't think this bodes well for any kind of leadership.

We should not stand for the arrogance and underground politics of a few City Council members. Steamboat residents, apologize to Loui Antonucci and Paul Hughes for how they have been treated by our new leaders.

I'm appalled by the ambush by City Council. Why do they want to fire a professional person who has served our community with dedication for more than eight years. We have no leadership on our City Council. We have too many special interests on there. Recall Brenner and Dellinger before we completely ruin our community.

City Council, what are you guys thinking? We don't have leaders, we have a disgruntled ex-city employee with a vendetta and a power-hungry president who will go to any level for his own personal gain.

To the council members who voted to fire Paul Hughes: the fastest way you can lose your power is to exercise your power, particularly when it's exercised inappropriately.

-- Kathy Connell

I am saddened by the dismissal of Paul Hughes. I think Susan Dellinger has completely misused her power. I think it's horrifying.

Ski Corp. misses chance

It's unfortunate that Ski Corp. has to once again flex its ego with its policy of collisions with downhill skiers. They miss an opportunity to kindly remind downhill skiers that their safety is also part of their own responsibility with regard to skiing predictably and taking a moment to look uphill to make sure the coast is clear before turning like a spazoid.
