Steamboat Springs With three wrestlers, the Soroco wrestling team took seventh out of 19 teams at the Sargent Tournament on Saturday.
Freshman Justin Iacovetto (103 pounds) and junior Joel Schlegel (119 pounds) placed second. Sophomore Dennis Morgan (215 pounds) was third.
Iacovetto and Schlegel lost to wrestlers from Dolores County.
"Justin had a tough kid in the finals," Rams coach Doug Gates said. "Justin was right in there with him. He was a little more mature and a little stronger. He was an 11th grader. ... Joel probably wrestled the toughest kid he's wrestled in the last couple years."
Dolores County, Paonia, Mee--ker and Nucla have emerged as tough teams in Soroco's and Hayden's regions. Iacovetto and Schlegel likely will run into their Dolores County opponents later this season.
"It is going to be packed," Gates said about the wrestlers in the region. "It will be tougher than last year."
On Friday, Soroco had a dual with Del Norte, but the 103-pound match was the only weight class in which Soroco and Del Norte matched up. Iacovetto won his match.
Iacovetto, Schlegel and Mor--gan will make the trip to Hayden for a triangular with Soroco and Rangely at 6 p.m. Friday.
The trio will compete in the West Grand Tournament on Saturday in Kremmling. The Rams will see more regional opponents this weekend, as well.
"We've got a lot of ones we'll see at state too," Gates said. "It will be a tough tournament."
