Tigers take down Bulldogs

— The Hayden wrestling team defeated the Moffat County junior varsity, 36-27, in a dual meet on Thursday in Hayden.

The Tigers have one of their best teams in years and took advantage of the increased numbers -- and talent -- of their squad against the best up-and-coming talent from Craig.

"We wrestled really well tonight," Hayden coach Ty Zabel said. "We had a lot of close matches. The kids wrestled really, really tough."

Zabel said some of the highlights were pins from Mitchell Doolin at 130 pounds, Jake Magee at 145 pounds, Coy Letlow at 152 pounds, Isaac Haskins at 160 pounds and Tyler Manzanares.

Another highlight was Chris DeBowes' win by decision at 135 pounds.

Thursday's match was Let--low's first this season after sitting out the Carl Ramunno Invitational during the weekend with an injury.

The dual was a perfect tune-up for the Tigers, who compete next in the Olathe Dual Tournament. Instead of a tournament based on individual results, the Saturday tournament in Olathe pits teams against one another.

"There should be some tough competition there," Zabel said.
