Chix fall to Clash

Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Chix with Stix hockey team lost a game against the Clash on Saturday at the Apex Center in Arvada.
The Clash is a Women's Association of Colorado Hockey 'B1' opponent, so the loss dropped the Chix to 2-2 in league play and 2-3 overall.
The Chix host the Denver Cliffhangers at 8:45 p.m. Saturday and again at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at Howelsen Ice Arena.
Although playing hockey is important to the Steamboat women, it isn't the only winter activity in which they participate -- something exemplified by their busy schedule.
Player Lisa Owen said most of the Chix players skied at Steamboat Ski Area on Saturday morning before driving to Denver to watch the University of Denver's men's hockey team play Colorado College. Then, the players made their way to Arvada for an 11 p.m. game against the Clash.
On top of all that, the Chix played with just nine skaters and new goalie Nikki Knoebel.
Steamboat struggled offensively but did a good job on its penalty kill, killing off three penalties.
The Clash scored with 15 seconds in the second period and added four goals in the third to win, 5-0.
