Man arrested in firework-lighting case

Relief might be in store for Steamboat Springs residents annoyed with the sounds of fireworks erupting at night.
David Wayne Black, 28, of Steamboat, was arrested Saturday by Steamboat Springs Police on suspicion of possessing illegal fireworks, Capt. Joel Rae said Tuesday.
Several people have called police recently to report loud fireworks at night. Sgt. Nick Bosick said that despite the calls during the past few months, police have been unable to locate the culprit and the location where the fireworks were being set off.
Rae said police found Black in the first block of Hemlock Court with several fireworks that leave the ground after they are lit, which is against the law.
Rae also said that one concerned resident went to the Steamboat Springs City Council recently to try to get fireworks banned within city limits because he was so sick of listening to them go off at night.
The original complaint about fireworks noise came from the Meadows Lane area.
Black was taken to Routt County Jail, where he was released on a $750 bond.
