Bronc rider hospitalized

Craig man bucked off horse, appeared to fall on head

A Craig man was hospitalized Sunday after being bucked off a horse at the Routt County Fairgrounds.

Wes Hertzog appeared to fall on his head after being bucked off a horse during a bronc riding event at the Routt County Fair & Rodeo, said Hayden police Officer Darin Falk, who witnessed the accident.

The accident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. Falk did not know Hertzog's age.

Officials with West Routt Ambulance were on the scene, and they transported Hertzog to Yampa Valley Medical Center.

Michael Sisk, a local orthopedic surgeon who was at the fair, helped attend to Hertzog in the ambulance, Falk said.

At about 4 p.m. Falk said Hertzog was "holding on" and was being prepared for Flight for Life transport to another hospital, though Falk did not know which hospital.

Hertzog's family asked that no information be released about his condition, YVMC nursing supervisor Ruth Sept said.
