With a small telescope, Ann Sirois used to watch her son breeze down the See Me and Voo Doo ski runs from her back deck.
The now verdant green slopes loom large and are among the most appealing aspects of Sirois' quintessential mountain home.
"It's got as good of a view of the ski area as any house in Steamboat," said listing broker Paul Hands of Mountain Home Realty.
Built of rough-sawn timber in 1978, the home on a corner lot originally was a duplex, but Sirois, who has owned the home for about 10 years, has converted it into a single-family residence with an attached two-car garage and apartment.
By knocking out walls, opening up rooms and adding distinct touches and finishes, Sirois has created a homey environment suitable as a year-round abode or ski retreat.
About 4,100 square feet, the three-level house offers private spaces and hideaways.
The master bedroom, one of five bedrooms in the home, is on the third floor and features large windows and a private balcony facing the ski mountain. The room also has one of four gas fireplaces and stoves in the home.
With the expansion, Sirois designed a large living room separate from the dining and kitchen areas. The private room includes an extensive custom entertainment cabinet and "sunset viewing" deck.
Children will enjoy the "Nancy Drew mystery closet" -- a cozy loft with a stairway leading to another private bedroom.
Two additional bedrooms on the ground floor are ideal spaces for children or guests.
Sirois gutted all four bathrooms in the home, adding colorful tile and amenities such as a Jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom.
Throughout the remodel, Sirois kept with the mountain-style of the home while adding comfortable details such as stained glass on doors, new windows and extra closet space.
The home also features built-in cabinets with lighting.
"I had a great time decorating it and redoing as much as I could," she said.
Above the heated two-car garage, built in 1997, is a large studio apartment with roomy a kitchen and bar area.
Outside, low-maintenance landscaping, made up of established rock gardens with perennials and various lilac, chokecherry and other trees, surround a secluded patio and hot tub.
Larger cottonwood and aspen trees offer a private setting. A spacious driveway includes a discreet area to park boats and other vehicles.
The home is being offered at $949,500. For more information, call Hands at 879-1086 or 846-9783.
