Girl Scouts recruitment event is at Wal-Mart

Girls ages 5 to 17 can sign up to take part in Girl Scouts during a "Be a Girl Scout" recruitment event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Wal-Mart. Girl Scouts of Chipeta Council also is looking for dedicated adult volunteers to help guide Girl Scouts. Volunteers can be parents, grandparents, young adults, retirees and others interested in becoming role models and mentors for girls. No experience is necessary, and Girl Scouts provides all training. Bereavement group meets today at VNA offices

Mending A Broken Heart, a bereavement education and support group sponsored by Hospice and the Visiting Nurse Association, will resume its meetings today. The group meets from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 1. Anyone grieving the death of a loved one is encouraged to attend. The meetings will take place at VNA offices. 'Walk on the Wild Side' event for children Aug. 18

Bud Werner Memorial Library invites children and teens who participated in the Penny Pages reading program to a "Walk on the Wild Side" from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 18 at Carpenter Ranch. Families must arrange their own transportation. Penny Pages participants, along with members of the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club and library staff, will present a contribution to the River to Ridges habitat protection effort at the end of the walk. Participants also are reminded that their reading logs are due at the library Friday. Call the library at 879-0240.

Chamber wants event

information for calendar

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association is asking for event information to be included in its winter calendar of events. The calendar includes events for November 2005 through April 2006. The information will be available on both Chamber Web sites and in the Winter Visitor's Guide, publications providing visitor information about Steamboat Springs, various community maps, news media publications, press releases and mailings. The deadline for submitting information for the Visitor's Guide calendar is Aug. 26. Visit or call 879-0882.

Habitat for Humanity

needs volunteers

Routt County Habitat for Humanity is building a duplex at 2940/2942 Abbey Road in West End Village. Volunteers are needed on weekdays and weekends to help build duplexes for two families.
