About six years ago, the high school began the process of re-evaluating graduation requirements. Numerous changes were proposed based on Board of Education and high school goals. Community focus meetings, district presentations, and regular school board updates occurred during this process. After the School Board approved the new graduation requirements, changes gradually were implemented with Senior Odyssey, a demonstration of math proficiency and the completion of additional science and English requirements affecting the class of 2005. In most cases, only Senior Odyssey and the additional English credit affected the senior-year course schedule.

A few bus stops have shelters and a place to sit down. However, nearly all of them leak. Snow and rain can get in. The result is that there are areas where riders cannot sit without getting wet. Sometimes, graffiti has been drawn on seats and on the Plexiglas. It is important to paint over graffiti wherever it occurs so that it will not proliferate. It should be an easy matter to caulk anyplace where moisture gets in. During the winter, snow and melting ice run toward the shelter across from Safeway. Gravel or sand should be placed on top. All trash, such as cigarette butts, cans and candy wrappers, should be picked up daily.

The full-page advertisements appearing in the Colorado Statesman and other publications entitled, "Coloradans are getting behind Referenda C & D," can't be cheap. Every one of those organizations has its hand in the public till. The barrage of radio ads and the glossy pamphlets promoting the passage of C and D are not cheap, either. You can bet that virtually every dollar paying for the expensive promotions is coming from interests that expect to get their money back from Colorado's coffers. It is a wonderful country where taxpayer money can be used to convince us to pay more taxes. After asking our representative in the State House why he was supporting a tax increase, we were told, "But there will not be any new taxes with C and D!" Excuse us, we went to school when they still taught math, reading and writing. If we taxpayers overpaid our taxes by $3 billion, we should be getting it back ... it's ours. If a referendum passes so that we don't get it back, that is a new tax.
