Snow brings changes to Sailors sports

Student athletes returning to Steamboat Springs High School from spring break Monday were greeted by snow and more schedule changes.

"We are just taking it day by day and doing the best we can right now," said Richard Lee, Steam-boat Springs High- Scho-ol athletics director.

The girls lacrosse game between Steamboat Springs and Thomas Jefferson that was scheduled for Monday at the high school had to be postponed because of wet field conditions.

Lee said he expects the game to be played the week of May 2, but no firm date has been established. The wet weather also meant shuffling several games scheduled for later this week.

The Steamboat baseball team had hoped to host Battle Mountain in the final doubleheader of the season today.

But after Monday's snow, the games will be moved to Craig Middle School. The first game will begin at 2 p.m., and the second will follow.

Lee is hoping the athletics field at the high school will be dry enough by Wednesday to resume a basic schedule in Steamboat Springs.

The boys lacrosse team is expected to host Englewood on Wednesday and Columbine on Thursday at the high school. Lee said a decision about the Englewood game would be made this afternoon after inspecting the field. If the field is not dry enough, the game might be moved to Denver.

Another big factor for games later this week will be the availability of Dudley Soccer Field.

If that field is not available, Lee said the school would have to juggle lacrosse and soccer games at the high school or move some soccer games to Craig.

Those decisions might have to be made at the last minute depending on the weather.

"All of our games are pending weather right now," Lee said.
