Optimist Club honors Hayden's Gregory
Hayden High School senior Chantal Gregory was named the Optimist Club's March teen of the month. Chantal, 18, maintains a 3.92 grade point average, is a member of the National Honor Society and has been named to the district's high honor roll since she entered middle school.
Chantal has competed in track and volleyball as well as holding a job every year of high school.
She is a member of the Community Action Network and is president of the school's Future Business Leaders of America chapter. She works for the school newspaper and yearbook, was a member of jazz band and the Spanish Club and currently is a member of the school's El Pomar Youth in Community Service group.
Chantal volunteers as a youth soccer coach, has been a science camp counselor and went to the United Nations in New York for two weeks in 2004 after being chosen for the trip by the Rebecca Lodge.
She also has volunteered in various community activities and programs, including Partners in Routt County.
Chantal enjoys reading, writing and learning about new people and places. She loves to travel, and she's learning to speak Spanish. She also enjoys snowboarding and skateboarding. She wants to join Peace Corps after graduating from college so she can pursue her goal of helping children and adults in struggling countries. Her advice to fellow students is to "be passionate and put your heart and soul into everything that you do. If you follow what you feel passionate about you can't go wrong."
