Council accepting entries for SummerArt 2005

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking entries for SummerArt 2005, a multimedia, juried fine art exhibit, to be held at the Depot Art Center. The entry deadline is May 13. Free dental care available for uninsured children

Free GPS workshop

to be held Tuesday

The Routt County Cooperative Extension is hosting a free Recreational GPS (Global Positioning System) Workshop at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Olympian Hall. GPS has become more a common utility for navigation, marking points, mapping, natural resources, recreation and agriculture.

This introductory class will teach the basics of GPS use. It is good for those who have one and do not know how to use it; those who are interested in learning more before that purchase or those who just want to learn more about them. Units will be available, or attendees can bring their own.

Planned Parenthood now is offering rapid HIV testing. Results take only 20 minutes. Call 879-2212.

Mother's Day phone cards available to send troops

There isn't any day that's easy for the mothers of service men and women overseas. But Mother's Day has to be harder than most. Nancy Cummins of the Steamboat Springs Post Office said window clerks would be selling AT&T phone cards for shipment to service men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan through Friday. They'll be marked "Steamboat Springs, CO" to let the soldiers know where they were purchased and sent overseas in time for Mother's Day on May 8. Anyone interested in sponsoring a Mother's Day phone card can do so with any postal window clerk at the post office. The cards are available in increments of $10, $20 and $30.

Emerald City Opera taking

scholarship applications

Emerald City Opera is has several events in the works. The group is accepting scholarship applications from graduating seniors in Northwest Coloradoor continuing vocal study in a high school music teacher or call the opera at 879-1996. Also, the group's touringini-opera, "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," is available for bookings for school assemblies, senior centers and youth groups. Call 879-1996. Finally, registration continues through May 12 forhe Colorado Mountain College opera appreciation course "What's Opera Doc?"Classes are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, May 5 to June.
