Colton Pasternak, Christopher Vasquez and Casey Williams opened the pee wee wrestling season with victories last weekend.
The athletes were among 13 young wrestlers from Steamboat Springs who traveled to Meeker for the first tournament of the season.
Eleven local wrestlers placed at or near the top of their weight divisions.
Pasternak earned his first title of the season in the 38-pound division in the kindergarten bracket. Teammate Wilder Gray was second in the same weight division, and Dakota Thvedt was second in the 41-pound division.
Vasquez placed first at 48 pounds in a combined division of second- and third-graders. Williams was first in the 64-pound class of a combined fourth- and fifth-grade division.
Other top Steamboat finishers included first-grader Tanner Stover, who was second at 65 pounds, second-grader Sam Rossman, who was fourth at 65 pounds, and third-grader Conner O'Brian, who was third at 68 pounds.
Fourth-grader Casey Wil--liams placed second at 74 pounds, fifth-grader Brandon Leu was third at 103 pounds, and Thomas Tuthill placed third at 80 pounds in a combined division that included fifth- and sixth-graders.
Last weekend's meet included teams from Moffat County, Rangely, Meeker, Grand Jun--ction, Rifle, Parachute, new Castle, North Park, Soroco and Vernal, Utah. This weekend, the pee wee wrestlers will head to Rangely for another tournament.
