Memorial Mass for pope is Friday at Holy Name
A memorial Mass for Pope John Paul II will be celebrated at noon at Holy Name Catholic Church, 524 Oak St. Call 879-0671. Celebrant will be Msgr. George Schroeder, assisted by Deacon John Franklin. The 84-year-old Pontiff died last weekend, after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was the third longest-reigning pope in the history of the Catholic Church. There will be no 7 a.m. Mass on Friday.
Horse health management class to be offered at CMC
Colorado Mountain College offers a "horse health management" class taught by Dr. Michael Gotchey. The class, which covers issues such as immunizations, feeding and West Nile Virus, meets from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, April 14 to May 12. The cost is $90. Call 870-4444 to register.
Volunteers needed for after-school study club
Volunteers are needed for Steamboat Springs Middle School's after school Study Club. The program runs from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Any help is appreciated. Call 879-1058.
Arts Council seeks entries for SummerArt show
The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking entries for SummerArt 2005, a multimedia, juried fine art exhibit, to be held at the Depot Art Center. The entry deadline is May 13. Send a phone card to the troops for Mother's Day
There isn't any day that's easy for the mothers of service men and women overseas. But Mother's Day has to be harder than most. Nancy Cummins of the Steamboat Springs Post Office said window clerks would be selling AT&T phone cards for shipment to service men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan through April 22. They'll be marked "Steamboat Springs, CO" to let the soldiers know where they were purchased and sent overseas in time for Mother's Day on May 8. People also can sponsor a phone card by visiting any postal window clerk at the post office. The cards are available in increments of $10, $20 and $30.
Rapid HIV testing offered at Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood now is offering rapid HIV testing. Results take only 20 minutes. Call 879-2212.

Bereavement group
meeting in April
Mending A Broken Heart," a free bereavement support group sponsored by Hospice and the Visiting Nurse Association, will begin meetingpril at the VNA offices. The group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays for the month of April.his session will focus on unexpected death, but is open to anyone grieving any type of death of a loved one.
