Academic standouts named

Five teams, 37 student-athletes qualify for All-State nominations


Five Steamboat Springs teams and 37 student-athletes qualified for All-State academic nominations during the winter activities season.

The girls basketball team led all teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.76. Also earning academic recognition from the Colorado High School Activities Association were the speech team (3.62), the girls Alpine ski team (3.61), the boys Alpine ski team (3.46) and the girls Nordic ski team (3.30).

Varsity teams have to maintain an unweighted GPA of at least 3.20 to meet the academic all-state criteria.

Individual members receiving academic recognition from CHSAA must be at least juniors and be letter-winner or equivalent in the CHSAA-sponsored activity.

All-State academic first team selections were: Colin Butler, Collin Hare, Ann Barney, Missy Chotvacs, Katie Darlington, Haley Gallagher, Casey Garth, Kayla Kostur, Kelly Labor, Jessica Peters, Madison Proper, Thomas Allen, Katie Conrath, Robyn Dye, Caitlin Gibbs, Kathleen Lyon, Derek Nicum, Andrew Zopf, Andy Garber, Mike Gleason, Justin Krause, Sar--ah MacCarthy, Stephanie En----gle, Suzanne Ford, Patrick Kuczkowski, Travis Mouffe, Dana Schlingman, Kelly Shaw, Amanda Toy, Alec Idoni and Sam Spillane.

First team candidates had to achieve an unweighted, cum--ulative GPA of 3.60 to 4.00

All-State honorable mention selections were: Tyler Fosdick, Dillon Jenkins, Korie Steitz, Daniel Coloccia, Clay McKenzie and Chris Ruff.

Honorable mention candidates had to achieve an unweighted, cumulative GPA of 3.30 to 3.59.
