Regardless of one's financial standing, this year's Christian Heritage School silent auction fund-raiser promises something for everyone, event organizers said.
"There's items in everyone's price range, from $10 to whatever," said Tawnya Boatwright, the fund-raiser's chairwoman.
The fund-raiser, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center, is the private school's eighth annual silent auction. As in past years, the $25 ticket price provides attendees an evening of heavy hors d'oevres, dessert and live music, in addition to the right to bid on any silent or live auction item.
Proceeds from the fund-raiser are used to supplement the school's operating budget, which enables it to keep tuition rates down, Principal Tim Calkins said.
"Fund-raisers like this help us keep tuition more reasonable for families," Calkins said. "It doesn't go to luxury items."
Last year's fund-raiser produced a record $80,000 for the school.
Christian Heritage School event organizers hope to sell 400 tickets for the fund-raiser. With only two days remaining, the organizers said they are close to selling out. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
Silent auction items include jewelry, handmade scarves, artwork, fly-fishing equipment and guided trips, skis, gift certificates to a variety of local businesses and restaurants and a number of items made by Christian Heritage School students, Boatwright said. Many of the silent auction items were donated.
Live auction items include admission tickets, a pit pass and a hotel room for a July NASCAR race at Pikes Peak International Raceway, a ride to school in a Steamboat Springs Police Depart--ment patrol vehicle, a birthday package of spa treatments, lunch and a cake for younger girls and women, a couple of vacation packages, and a gourmet dinner catered by award-winning chef Jacques Wilson.
